Manitas Steel Drum Ensemble is a combination of Caribbean steel drums, xylophones, drums and small percussion plus movement. We have been in existence since February 2012. Lisa Sellers is the founder, director and music arranger for this group. Lisa Sellers is also the music teacher for Manitas elementary. Students are taught performing skills, musicianship, and character skills. Manitas Steel D.R.U.M Ensemble is more than just a music group. The secondary goal is to build character traits.
Steel – We are strong like steel and don’t give up.
Discipline – We are self-disciplined in behavior and school work. Do what you are supposed to do. Plan ahead. Always do your best. Use self-control.
Think before you act — consider the consequences. Be accountable for your words, actions, and attitudes. Set a good example for others.
Respect – People with self-respect and respect for others make good decisions. They treat others the way they want to be treated even when no one is watching. Be honest. Don’t deceive, cheat, or steal.
Be reliable — do what you say you’ll do. Have the courage to do the right thing. Build a good reputation.
Be loyal — stand by your family, friends, and country. Obey laws and rules. Respect authority. Be a good neighbor. Be compassionate and show you care. Express gratitude. Forgive others.
Help people in need.Unity – We work together as a team. Say we, not I. Play by the rules. Take turns and share. Be open-minded, and listen to others. Don’t take advantage of others. Don’t blame others carelessly. Treat all people fairly. Be kind. Do your share to make your school and community better. Cooperate.
Manitas Music – We learn all these things through our mastery in music!
